Challenge: Selective Desaturation (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Minolta DiMAGE 7i
Location: Redmond Washington
Date: Jun 16, 2004
Aperture: 9.5
ISO: 100
Shutter: 1/1000

100% desaturation on all but red and green. Increased the green saturation slightly and decreased red by 50%.

Photographed in Raw and in that state, increased the exposure +1 and sharpened. I also processed in Neat Image. Oh, I also cropped.

The composition of this is great, as is the candid nature of this shot. Would like to see it without the desaturation

wow good photo. I would probably like it more if the colors were more saturated though. Good job anyway.

'cool' picture, but not really for this challenge....

It's a very neat picture with a sharp focus, I like how the water looks. There are too many faded colors and allot of unknown itmes for the desaturation effect to be recognized. It looks like a normal picture with all the colors desaturated.

Interesting shot, nicely masked and finely balanced colours. I think the image would look even better with the reflection of the kids turned to grayscale.

Cute and well done - perhaps a bit too centered. Subtle colors work as you wanted.

one of the best shots. if there were one small thing i would work on, it would be the green shoe strings. they are the boldest and brightest part of the shot and compete with the boy's face for attention. toning them down would be a good idea i think.

Great subject and very fun picture. I like the way you composed this and the stop-motion shutter speed you used...... 7

Great job with the desaturation. Also great human interest. One of my favorites in this challenge.

That's a beautiful capture but it doesn;t seem that the selective desaturation was carried out well. The kids look really pale. The way to do that is to create 2 layers, desaturate the top later then erase the parts you want in colour from the top layer so that the colour of the kids in the background layer show up. Voila you've got a selectively desaturated image.

I really like the way the kids stand out in color, and the way the rest of the shot appears in B&W.

Cute! I think I would have liked this more either completely in color, or with the kids selectively in full-color with only the background desaturated. That's a lot of work, I know, but as it is now the kids look rather bland, which is a pity because the image is great.

I like this shot. Wholesome. Would have pumped up the saturation on this.
But I do see the effect your going for. Nice job.

cute picture. might have been more effective if the kids were wearing brighter clothing so they stood out a little more.

Priceless. I don't know how else to say it. For my money, this is the perfect capture and my top pick of the challenge. Unfortunately, I can't help with a vote, but if I could, 10 all the way. Great job.

this is a fantastic shot, but doesn't benefit very much from the desaturation, so I can't give it a 9-10 score. But a very evocative capture.
