From the critique club:
This is much more than the typical silhoutte shot. The detail on the left of the shallow water adds a good sense of depth to the perpective.
The outline on the canoe gently leads the eye to the figures. Now, the canoe and the definition in the foreground help the eyes take rescue from the razor sharp sun.
The universal subject of Father and son is implied and here is where this soars as a captivating image. This is a complete image and there is no fault I can find that is worth mentioning.
Some may ask for more eye relief from the sun, but these scenes emanate this magical look because of the high contrast and the foreground is the comfort for the eye.
My first impulse was to suggest just a higher vantage point so as to clear the father's head, but then we create a separation. This would then isolate the figures.
As I look at the image I smile, because there is nothing I can suggest to improve this image. My suggestion is to make a good print and hang it much like you would a fine work of art. Congratulations and the DPC village will look forward to seeing more of your fine images.

What a great submission - reminds me of a Mark Twain story - the best black and white of the challenge. I hope you do well - the image deserves it!

This has a really nice feel to it. I like the tones, but I would also like to see it in color. Nice illustration of a summer day with dad.

Strongly nostalgic.

What a nice feeling this has. There are quiet a few things that are appealing. The solitude of the people, the color treatment, the composition. All good. I think the picture might have looked better with the sun down a little more. Also there is a haze or halo around the people that could have been removed in post processing. It's really amazing how well this is exposed considering how the sun is almost in the center.

Beautiful image. Great exposure and composition and the lens flare from the sun is very appropriate for this image. Well done (9)
