Hey there from the Critique Club

First of all, congrats on a new personal best. Its always great to see a new entry sitting there atop the previous scores! Also, nice job, and a very rare occurrence in the fact that you submitted an entry that made it all the way through without a 1, 2, OR 3 vote. Your bell curve looks funny!

My thoughts on the image: Well seen and very well presented. I love the moodiness you captured with the various tones of gray. Without the area of grass on the left, it would be hard to tell that this was not a nice black and white conversion. I am not normally a fan of soft waterfalls, as they are extremely overdone here, this one is very, very well done as evidenced by your strong finish.

My ideas for improvement: I honestly have nothing to offer here for any vast improvements. Perhaps some selective dodging and burning to add some depth and drama to the sky.

Where I would have/did score this entry: I did not vote in this particular challenge, but I would have fallen up there with your 6s or 7s depending on the strength of the overall challenge itself. Nicely done.

Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

Thanks everyone for the great comments and for voting! It's the highest score I ever got. I wish the weather had been better, but it was a typical drab western New York November day.

I really have to go there someday. Great shot.

Wow, very brave I think to enter something so iconic and so frequently and famously photographed -- you really pulled it off!

Hey! Very nice, I've been there once or twice. I like the long exposure during daylight hours...nicely done!

I've seen a lot of shots of Niagra that weren't that great, and they kind of all looked the same, but this one is great. I love the partially obscure background as well as the motion blur in the water.

Wondrous and captivating image of the "Thunder of waters" I can almost hear the thundering roar of the water cascading over the edge with great force. 10

this is by far one of the most perfect captures of Niagara that I have seen...stunning

Thundering natural power of this immense waterfall and you have captured it beautifully with the silken flow. The white and grey tones of the water contrast nicely with the left hand bits of brush and stone. The shapes and tones of the water are repeated in the sky and clouds. This is flowing free broken up only by the landshore in the middle to provide anchor. Excellent, one of my very favourites. The encapsulation of controlled force is magnificent.

flows nicely. foreground water is a little blown but I didn't notice that 'til I'd been looking at the picture for a couple of minutes, so it must be good overall. good luck

Lovely mood captured here. Strong composition and processing. I always find it a challenge to decide upon the amount of blown whites in rushing water. For me the balance here is picture perfect. I will come back to this and use it as reference for my own work :) I expect this to be on the front page (no vote)

Ive been to Niagara many times, but have never come away with a shot that I was satisfied with. I think your shot is really strong, as the mist doesnt obscure the falls too much, and your processing leaves an intense mood overall. Nice shot. 8

What a novel and interesting view - I don't think I've seen this POV before. Beautiful composition and exposure. Really lovely shot.

This is a nice unique view of Niagra(at least one I haven't seen before). Much more impactful than the normal wide angle shot.

Stunning view. Too bad the lighting was so dismal. Wonderful dof, if rather flat, lightingwise.
