I caught this shot on the beach in the slighty misty morning. I cropped out a lot of birds on the left in order to put the child into the Rule of Thirds spot. I also cropped some of the cliff on the top of the photo. I puzzled about whether I would try to straighten the "horizon" line which is really not horizon at all but the base of the cliff. Do you think I should have straightened it? I took it on P Mode and don't have access to the Film spees, A and Shutter Speed. Any comments are welcome- be tough I'm trying to get better!!

I wasn't planning on voting this FS but I popped in and saw this and had to vote and make it count. Wonderful image of a toddler's curiousity, showing her confidently (if maybe a little unsteadily) exploring her world.

OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for my Mu (most underrated) award:

Positives: Sometimes in this comment series, I comment on an image than has wider than 'just' niche appeal - I think this is straying into that area (that's a good thing!) I was going to say that the light at the back of the image is what makes this for me - then I saw her feet! She's practically walking on water. I also really like the way the light is catching her hair.

Critical stuff: the cropping of the head in the reflection is a little distracting - the image is strong enough to carry it but I think it does matter.

Overall: A great image of a charming scene which benefits from great light.

Great shot, nice balance, tones, contrast & composition, 8

Back to bump to a 9 , for some unkown reason I really like this shot. I guess that is what photography is all about. 9

I like how she is backlit. I wish the horizon line was level. Maybe including all of her reflection, and not chopping off her head would have served you better. :~) 6

Nice job. The horizon almost disappears.
