The RAF Red Arrows display team taken during the Jersey International Air Display.

Shooting was difficult as the only spot I could get was facing directly into the sun and on a windy day but I managed to get this shot on their way round for another pass.

There were some much better formations and shots but the photos were not great due to the sun!

=======================================

WOW! Thrilled with the score and ribbon!

A little suprised at how well it had been doing during voting but makes all the low scores worthwhile. A definite incentive for all to keep going.

Thanks for all the positive comments.

Hi Joe,

WELL DONE !!!!!!!

Very envious, but well deserved as it really is a great picture.

Trust you and the family are all well.

Regards,

David (C).

Greetings from the Critique Club

It is quite difficult to offer a critique on one of the ribbon winning shots, but I'll have a go since you ticked the box for a critique.

It must have been incredibly difficult to capture this image, so I take my hat off to you as the composition is spot on. It never ceases to amaze me when I see images of formation flying how anyone manages to get these shots. Those planes move quickly!

Choosing to desaturate this image was interesting. I personally am not a fan of selective desaturation and had I voted then it would surely have influenced my vote. I very rarely find it enhances an image and in this case I think a blue sky would have worked so much better. I am however, clearly in the minority on this issue as you still scored above a 7. I wonder if you would however have scored higher overall with a fully saturated image?

Anyway, quite difficult to critique since it is a really well done image.

Great timing on this shot and the skewed angle makes this a great shot.

Thumbnail view: five contrails. Voting view: nine red airplanes - nice visual surprise. Red usually works well with blue, so choice of grey sky is interesting. I think that sets up the small red areas to have much greater impact. Well seen and nicely executed.

Great flying symmetry on their part, and great capture on your part. With basic editing, this can't be selective desat (can it?). So was the sky really this gray? Looking forward to your notes.

Jees how often do these air shows take place? Every week? Awesome shot, although I guess a lot of voters would prefer a pristine blue sky with no cloud...
