My sister Suzanne.
Went out and bought an 18 inch wrench. the opening must be around 5 to 6cm. There are 5 light bulbs for this shot. two 100W desklamps used to give her hair some shine. a 500W light from the bottom up. another 500W shining at the ceiling and illuminating a large piece of white carboard, which is reflected in the wrench. The paper had to be right above the camera. The last 500 W light bulb is pointing straight at her at camera level, but a bit the left. With this much light, I could shrink to aperture to 6.3, focus at the mid point between her and the wrench so that they both come out in focus.

I handheld the wrench with arm extended out while snapping the the other hand. Most shots where misaligned; but I had many to choose from and this one was the best.

PS: the background is a hanging velvet sheet.

Unfortunately, a wrench doesn't look to be "there". But the idea is nice...
06/14/2004 05:45:48 AM
I gave this a 10
maybe if you had done a poor job more people would have believed it and you would have scored higher
bad luck should have been much higher
06/14/2004 05:44:42 AM
I can't believe this got so many low scores. You win some, you lose some I guess.

I was surprised not to see more optical illusions like this in this challenge. This one is cleverly done and sharp as a tack. Nice job.

Cool concept. Very original take on the challenge. I hope a ribbon for this picture. I love color and skin texture too.

Another of the photos in this challenge where I can't wait to see how you did it. I liked this shot from the first time I saw it.

Nice shot, But I don't think this fits the category. Depth of Field
06/10/2004 01:07:38 PM
great shot, Its amazing how clear both the wrench and the person are. 7

Great concept and of course it's real-- otherwise it wouldn't meet the challenge. Excellent focus on the wrench and the wench. :)
06/09/2004 04:34:03 PM
very orginal

Ha! Great positioning of the crescent wrench - and using it as a tool to demonstrate DoF! It's also a perfect demonstration of multiple sources of light - exposure is perfect on the model and the prop. Black background a real winner. This should finish well above the pack.

Can't believe you had to validate this. Hopefully you haven't got many weak votes. Great shot. Bump for creativity.

great idea, attractive model and good lighting (especially since chrome is not easy to light). 9

Very cool photo. The setup and composition of the shot look perfect. DOF, detail, and lighting is great. Hope you do well, I give a 9
06/07/2004 11:04:33 PM
well done. Original.
06/07/2004 09:57:10 PM
what is it with the eye highlight?
06/07/2004 08:15:58 PM
Great Composition.
06/07/2004 06:47:59 PM
This is a well executed forced perspective shot and it does require deep depth of field to achieve. I don't find the subject appealing, however. I'm sure others will. Good luck with it!
06/07/2004 05:44:38 PM
Cute....I think if model had her hair pulled back it'd have been just a touch more realistic.....but creative....

06/07/2004 04:05:16 PM
GREAT PICTURE -- I tried for the same concept - (mine came out a little sloppy) -- no one understood the deep depth of field in the illusion! I'm giving you a 10!
06/07/2004 02:20:19 PM
This cracks me up. Great idea and humorous take on the challenge theme. It's one of my top choices.
06/07/2004 01:16:07 PM
Very cool!!! Excellent take on the challenge! Now that's using your head. :) Good clarity and focus throughout the photo. Good luck with the challenge!!!
06/07/2004 12:26:38 PM
Very well done and great job of balancing the light! 7
06/07/2004 09:44:52 AM
*Very* creative! Great clean background really emphasizes the sbuject(s). Nice composition as well.
06/07/2004 09:27:31 AM
Good use of a longer lens to flatten out the image. Creative idea, well done. Well lit and composed, including no disturbing reflections in the spanner/wrench, and that vivid blue eye in the middle of the whole shot really catches your attention. I like this more the more I look at it. Good work!
06/07/2004 06:36:58 AM
Bad piece of photoshop work (does not look real at all) and I can't see the connection to the challenge theme. Sorry.
06/07/2004 04:18:11 AM
Really cute idea. Did you edit her eye at all? It looks a little strange.
06/07/2004 03:32:52 AM
good ideea and dof...hope the model is still alive...;-)
06/07/2004 03:31:26 AM
What a great idea. Hope this one does well.
06/07/2004 02:46:15 AM
Ingenious!!
06/07/2004 01:29:37 AM
Nice visual illusion and nice example of how a deep depth of field can be applied. Good work and good luck in the challenge.
06/07/2004 01:09:40 AM
Nicely done, and a great way to illustrate a large DOF. Nice shot.
06/07/2004 01:05:33 AM
Wow! What clarity! How did you do that?
06/07/2004 12:30:37 AM
Very nice take on the challenge. This one may ribbon
