Just trying out my D40 for infrared.
All seems well.

Many thanks for your votes. My 1st infrared shots this year.
This was an experiment to try and sort out my white balance issues with the D40. Thanks to capture one i can get even better colour ir than i did with the D50/D70 :)

Shot in raw with hoya r72ir filter on camera. Used capture one to set white balance down to 1400k. This is important as photoshop only goes down to 2000k and leaves images too red. And the white balance can`t be set in camera like the D50/D70.
Open in cs2, swap red/blue channels,levels.
Adjusted hue/saturation +70% overall, yellow-100hue,cyan+26ish hue.

Hi, you can`t do a custom white balance with the ir filter fitted on the D40.

You can with the D50 which you have. The D50 is must easier for ir than D40. Just set custom WB to sunlit grass with the filter on for perfect brown colours like this

Then swap the blue/red channels for colours like this

Hi Marbo, I saw your comment about Lightroom's WB limitations. I saw this article and thought I would share it. I haven't tried it out personally but it looks like it might work.

eta: Lets try this again WITH the article:

It looks like a cotton candy dream!! I wish the composition was a little different though, maybe not have the little house RIGHt in the middle, or putting the camera closer to the floor?
