Lydia, I thought this was an amazing shot and am shocked that it wasn't AT LEAST in the top 10. As you pointed out, no where in the challenge description did it state that the appliance had to be the main subject. Although, I personally feel that it is, otherwise you would have cropped much tighter on the hummingbird and flower.
Hopefully the DNMC votes weren't too discouraging; I hope to see more shots like this in the future! |

| I just read all of the comments and I have to disagree with most of them ... I immediately saw the toaster, then the flower and then the bird ... realized what you were going for ...I think that this is fantastic! Clever title and well shot ... had I voted I would have given you a 9 ... great job! |

| Well done Lydia, placed high despite the DNMC votes. Reading the comments it seems that the bird was too attractive and well captured! Interesting that the cat and fish took second. I happen to really like that shot as well. When looking at that photograph the placement of the appliance was more visually prominent. In hindsight, taking the comments and other images into context, the flower is too dominant and immediately brings in the hummingbird, then, oh by the way the toaster. Although I can honestly say that I would have been on the 6 plus end if I voted, I think many of the 4 and under crowd were taken aback by the placement and prominence of the flower. It's still creative, humorous, and fresh despite the hummingbird. |

Beautiful capture of a toaster - oh and that hummingbird too! :D What effort you must have put into this one lol. Now all this needs is a toad leaping out of the appliance :D

| Beautiful picture, well done, but it seems like a stretch. The photo seems more about the bird with the appliance thrown in to meet the challenge. Probably impossible, but if you could have done something like the hummingbird and the flower reflected on the toaster, then it would put the appliance back as the subject and tie them more closely together. |

| awesome shoehor..err image...! But seriously nice job getting a humming bird mid flight. I predict high scores for this. But i couldn't help but feel the "home appliance" wasn't your main subject, but who cares really its a solid entry and its creative, and there's an appliance in there! So well done. 8 |

| Dude, don't you know hummingbirds can't use a toaster? They like the speed and chaos of a robust blender. Next time make it realistic! Toasting a flower...what will you think of next...a young man posing as a monkey? ;) |

to me, that's already too far from the challenge title, it wouldn't work for "flowers" either. The sujet is the bird. 6
no doubt it's a excellent picture with a nice tonality, though |
