This is a candid portrait of my friend Henrik, an actor from Denmark who has been living and working in Providence for some years now. Sadly, he recently shaved that gorgeous handlebar mustache. This was taken at a musical festival my husband was performing at in Southern Rhode Island. It was called The Funky Avocado Festival if memory serves. It was a good day.

About the photo... I believe I shot this as part of an assignment for a photography class in which you had to move in really close to the subject. I probably used 400 speed Kodak TriX Pan and a Minolta aperature priority camera. I had an xG1 and a x370 which were pretty similar. Whatever...this is a not so great scan of a print I developed myself. I am going to try to find these old prints and make better scans.

Wonderful! Too bad about the moustache.

odd, i thought i added this to my faves forever ago. his expression is fabulous--and he has a sort of 'inspector clouseau' air about him that makes me smile every time i see it.

Wham, what great energy, not only of the subject but also via manner!

It is a very tight crop, especially at top and bottom, and not having been there, I can't say if it could have been 'framed' better. I like the vintage coarseness of it, the contrast and b & w, but I admire the timing, most of all.

Great capture - really looks natural. Nice depth of contrast too.

Edit: just noticed the border looks odd, but actually on second glance I like the erraticness of it which matches the protrait, so perhaps you could emphasise it more?
