My first free study entry. Hope this doesn't get looked at as too cliche'. This is also my first attempt at a refraction shot.

Processing (not in order)

Raw conversion
Noise Ninja
B&W Levels
Contrast/Brightness
Spot healing
Clone Stamp
Slight dodge/burn adjustments
Lots of layer mask work
LucisArt plugin filters (Exposure and Wyeth)
Unsharp mask
Resize for web

Had to do some heavy editing as I had used ISO800 for this shot (Not sure why, I had tried a few shots on 800 and this one was one of my favorites)

utterly disappointed on all fronts. I had heard Free Study was "harsh" but a 5.5 I would not have guessed for this image.

Whats even worse than the low score is the lack of comments. I haven't the slightest idea why people didn't like this.

Did people miss that this was a drop of water? I've heard some feedback that it looks like a glass object. Guess I'll never know.

freakin_hilarious

Thanks for leaving your 2 cents, I totally respect your opinion.

My opinion: Your vote was too harsh. Judging by your 35 thousand votes cast, i'm guessing you're completely jaded from this type of shot. I'd be interested in seeing what qualifies as a 2 or a 1 for you. Also, while i do appreciate comments, I'm not that desperate for them to go off to the forums and ask for more comments. 248 views during voting and 3 comments says enough: Cliche'. I'm just frustrated considering the effort i put into this.

Thanks for your 3.

Saying this great shot is underrated is an understatement. I thought it would be on the top 20 at least.
Great job on the both freezing the drop and capturing the refraction of the clock. I know all the work it took to get this fine shot, congratulations!!!

Just stumbled across this one again and figured I'd give you my 2 cents. First, unless you have a really good or really bad image, during the challenge is the worst time to get comments. If you want to know why people didn't like it, start a thread after the challenge and ask. Pretty easy, actually. "Guess I'll never know" certainly won't get you there. Personally, I've seen the same kind of shot enough now that it just isn't that interesting to me anymore. I would have given it a 5 if it was full size. As is, I gave it a 3.
