This should have been my entry in Pigeons - but I went with something else. I do like this one. I love the position of the bird. This lady feeds the pigeons every day in the park. They immediately descend upon her when she arrives - they most definitely know her. Usually she's quite friendly toward me, but this time (it was Friday on my lunch hour) she kept directing me away from her. I don't know if she didn't want me taking HER picture or if she didn't want me disturbing her birds. (My understanding of German still sucks.) Anyway, it made me kinda sad, since I've enjoyed shooting her and the interaction she has with her birds.

Beautiful pigeon with that somewhat blurred wings. Looks like the lady was helping you to make a wonderful photo. Now all the attention is going to the bird.

damn, I love this. Good for you for entering the anti-dpc photo, but I gotta tell you, I love this.

Love that headless lady!

This image is so touching to me - the position of the bird with its eyes closed, and the total trust - absolutely amazing. Not to mention your excellent framing of the scene, the outstanding BW conversion. I love this.

I can't help but believe that she would love a couple of your amazing photos with her beloved birds. Has she ever seen any? Maybe if you took her one or two and gave them to her, she would understand how special your pigeon work is and be proud to be a part of it.

I bet it was something about not wanting the birds disturbed this time. How amazing that they personally know her. I've always thought my park geese know me too but I wasn't sure. What a great story!

this is my favorite of your pigeon shots, but i'm still very fond of the one you entered in the challenge. i think it's awesome that you went with an out of the box entry

This probably would have scored higher, but I applaud you for entering the one you personally preferred (Or, was this the one you preferred?). I have been starting to do the same as I learn what I really like. Of course, I experiment a lot anyway.

This is a great shot and definately should have been your entry.

The shot shows a whole different aspect of Pigeons as looking graceful, balletic even, like a star performer taking his bow to an audience of one, but still treating them like they were an audience of thousands.

I like the material in the ladies coat, it lends an air of class to the shot, again moving away from the image of 'Sky Rats' to something altogether more wonderful and worthy of our notice. I am quite sure that if Pigeons were not quite so ubiquitous we would be fascinated by them and marvel at their lines, their plumage and their gentle coo-ing.

I like this title, but another that might have been worthy of consideration would be " . . I thank you . . "

Lovely composition. DOF shows great lines in pigeon pose and stunning anonymity of pigeon feeder lady. You might make a copy of this and one day when she is friendly give it to her.

She was probably just concerned that you might scare away the pigeons. This is outstanding, I hope your entry in Pigeons is as good or better!

This is a great shot, Deb. I would vote for "didn't want me disturbing her birds" interpretation - I'm not guilty of shooing people away, but I've often been highly frustrated when observing a particular bird or interaction of birds and someone comes along, too close or too noisy or both, and scatters them away - maybe she was afraid she would lose the moment, if you got too close. Perhaps you could offer a print of this shot, or others you have of her? She might really like that...

This is a great shot, has action/motion and interaction with the lady. Composition is right on too.
Maybe the lady was just having a bad day...
