Wow. . . a totally classic still life, speaking volumes and so simple.
Beautifully done and CONGRATULATIONS on a well-deserved win!

This shot brings me back to my grade school years. The old gloves, stinky and wore out. Great shot. Really has a good feel to it.

Congrats on an excellent photo!

and you did not take first place with this photo how?

Excellent!

This is a wonderful picture! -- so what Boxing isn't a "team" sport, the merits of the photo stand on their own -- even if you took a point for barely meeting the challenge this would still be an 11

Lovely, rich photo! Congratulations on the ribbon!

I think you're getting a little too caught up in whole thing, boogie. Relax. We're not here to bastardize eachother's art based on a few nonsensical preliminary judgements. So what it doesn't meet the challenge; the picture is flawless, and is deserving of its ribbon place.
06/09/2004 05:53:03 AM
don't get me wrong but i'm completley dissapointed with this ribborn...helloooo...boxing doesn't have anything...but absolutely anything to do with a 'team spot'...guys...take a dictionary and check the meaning for 'team sport'...and please understand that is not only the photographer fault...he/she just take a photo and submit it to the challange...what is very concerning is that we...the voters give high scores for a picture that doesn't meet the challange at all...i repeat...that's bad...we don't know what a team spot is...

I knew you would place high, kudo's on the ribbon. Nice work.

Congratulations on your ribbon! :o)

good texture

nice low key shot (I have a soft spot for low key images). I probably would have lit it a bit more from the side to get a little more of the detail in the left hand glove.

Good photo, just a bit of a highlight blown out at the wrist of the lower glove.

nicely done... one of my top picks this challenge

In my view, the only 10 in the submissions for this challengs. This is beautifully evocative. The worn gloves seem symbolic of the way boxing wears out the boxer. The old gloves seem nostalgicly out of step with the slick, monied sport boxing has become. The black and white works very well and seems to symbolize the black and white of olymics competition. Well titled. The the levels are perfect. The composition is perfect. The focus is nearly perfect. If you don't ribbon, no one deserves to! Good luck.

Very nice framing, I really like the tone. The condition of the gloves tells a story and fits with the year in your title. Great job...

Good luck...

Nice shot, dramatic tones, makes me think someone took a beating with those gloves.
06/04/2004 10:19:19 PM
nice shot I like this but team?
06/04/2004 03:42:40 PM
Great toning..very evocative photo, and a good fit for the challenge.

Upon review of all the other entries, I've revisited this one, and I am giving it a 10. I think this is the best photo in this challenge, becuase you have succesfully captured the FEELING of the sport. Worn, beat up and scarred gloves. The black and white/toned photo and overall dark tones and subdued lighting gives a feeling of tiredness. Very well done!

You might get some opinions that boxing isn't a team sport. Well, I kind of agree, but I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and including the various trainers, doctors, coaches, etc. that are all behind the fighter.

I used to box, so I like this one, 10

Wow, what a nice photo. Even if these gloves weren't used on the 1952 Olympic team, it sure looks like they could have been. Excellent job.

I love it. I like that it's black and white. I also love the placement and curves. Very nice job.

Great shot but boxing isn't a team sport for we, the literal minded. Still lush B&W conversion and emotionally evocative shot, well lit and framed. In boxing parlance , just off target, but a powerfull blow, might well ribbon.

I guess I never really thought of boxing as a team sport, but this is a great shot. The texture and fine detail really stand out against the muted contrast in the background.

Is boxing a "team" sport ?

10-congrats!

very good
06/02/2004 01:32:21 AM
This is a perfect shot. I love it in every way but I think of a team as more than one player on a side. I think the challenge theme is just a bit weak, but the picture more than makes up for it. 9
