Sorry this is a week late - have just got back from holiday and as so many people asked, here is the original of 'Autoscopy' and how I did it.

To get the angles right I used a 15mm fisheye so lots of cropping was required. For my entry I used a 1 second exposure with a 2 second delay, held the skull approx 5 inches from the lens, hit the remote, struck the 'pose' and as soon as the flash fired moved the skull (on a stick) toward my face. The hard part was moving the skull for a full second and getting the shutter to close just as the skull covered my face..

Editing was little more than a (large) crop, converting to B&W with Nik Silver Effex Pro (adding noise) then finished the skull and blur off with a green photo filter in CS3 then erased the filter from most of my face.

An outtake I quite fancied but think I went with the right shot...

This is so cool!

I was interested in how you came up with that title, so I googled it. Wiki says "The term autoscopy derives from the Greek words autos (self) and skopeein (to see). It refers to an experience in which a person, while believing him or her self to be awake, sees his or her body and the world from a location outside his or her physical body. More precisely, autoscopy experiences are characterized by the presence of the following three phenomena:

disembodiment (apparent location of the self outside one's body);
impression of seeing the world from an elevated and distanced visuo-spatial perspective (extracorporeal, but egocentric visuo-spatial perspective); and
impression of seeing one's own body (autoscopy) from this perspective..."

Not only are you good with a camera, you are smart too!
Awesome!

Thanks,

Debbi
