I was supposed to go to Lake O'Hara this weekend but I was on the waiting list. I started at 10th in April and by Tuesday this week I was number 2. That's as good as it got.

I took Friday off about 6 weeks ago just in case I got a spot for the trip. Since I wasn't going to Lake O' Hara I wanted go somewhere. Banff is about an hour away or so. I had driven the Minnewanka loop in the fall during a good snow fall so I decided so come back for a summer visit. Unfortunately, my wife had to work so I had to drop her off before I could head out. That meant shooting at around 12 noon.
Not exactly great light for shooting beautiful mountain landscapes but fortunately there were a lot of wildflowers. Using my trusty 60 mm macro lens I took a few dozen pictures. (This one was with my Sigma 70 - 300 though). It was challenging because the wind would gust periodically and make focusing next to impossible. When the wind died down I was fortunate enough to get a small stretch where clouds were over the sun.

Post processing for this was fun and more than I usually do. I did some simple edits in LR (cropping and levels and clone out a stupid dust spot) and then I used Silver Efex Pro to do the black and white conversion. I settled on the tin type preset which had the look that I liked. I was just using the demo but I think I am going to purchase this plug-in because it does terrific monochrome conversions.

With the image stored in LR I exported it as a TIFF to resize, do a quick run of USM in PSP XI.

Post challenge
Well...the results shouldn't be too surprising to me. This is one of those shots you either really like or you don't. I am curious to see what this would look like printed out 8 X 10 however because personally I like it.
