this is a tough project because really what hasnt been seen on DPchallenge. Hmm Im not sure I havent really been on here all that long. If you could do extreme digital retouching I could probaly have come up with something extreme.. But insteed I decided to go to the complete opposite and go for something simple simple.

This photo makes me sad, her eyes really grab my attention. Im not going to say anything about the photo or who she is or so on. I will just love to know what it makes you feel?

Just in case anyone was wondering, we all don't lose our eyebrows, that's the only hair I have left.

Funny, she didn't look like a cancer patient. Looked more like a typical pretty DPC model. But I wanted to believe!

When you look at a photo before editing, if you say that it is a photo of a girl with a skull cap on and then when you had finished the editing, you look at the result and say this is a girl.....then you have obviously removed the major element of the skull cap. That is a general guideline for finding out if you have crossed the rules in your editing.

fair enough, the eyebrows are actually stuck on.. there not hers.. this photo was part of a shoot I did for a company who sells wigs, fakes eyelashes and eyebrows for with either cancer patients, drag queens, or crazy people like me hahaha I might actually post the whole series so you can see all the steps, becuase in the other shot she has no eyebrows..

It's a stunning shot, but since this is your second DQ, I urge you to please read the rules. This isn't an "anything goes" site, and it's a shame when great shots (I also enjoyed your Barbie shot) get DQ'd because of rule violations that could've been avoided. I look forward to more from you!
07/05/2009 10:25:17 PM
Don't worry about a DQ on DPC. It means NOTHING. Your photo is great.
07/05/2009 07:38:16 PM
Sorry your photo was DQ'd.

Very powerful image. Her eye's tell her story. However, IMO the hi-key takes away from the look of a person battling the invader. My wife (BC) and I (CC) both battled the invader and lost our nature skin coloring. We became pale with a grayish skin tone. In my DP portfolio there is an image of me receiving chemo. Images of people dealing with cancer disturb me, even my own image does.

I hope your friend overcomes the invader. When she does, and I know she will, she will become a stronger person.

Sorry about the DQ! I don't even know what, "a typical viewer's description of the photograph" is...

Still a great picture worthy of a ribbon!
07/04/2009 10:00:47 PM
Would you mind posting the original, Susie? I'd really like to see your editing here. It's a very unique image.
07/04/2009 04:59:00 PM
Congrats on your first ribbon.
07/04/2009 02:53:55 AM
Beautiful and the high key effect just enhances her beauty
Lovely work
07/04/2009 12:57:33 AM
Great photo, but nothing new here... :(

Bald woman:

Cancer patient (although in neither is "cancer" apparent except in the title).

And countless high-key shots.

Again, excellent photo -- but DNMC

Congrats on your ribbon. Very powerful image. You got a 10 from me.
07/03/2009 02:13:52 PM
Great idea - you definitely need to keep the whole enigmatic vibe going with this - it really adds to the shot.
07/03/2009 01:22:30 PM
Check it out ... 10s, 9s, and 8s all with the same number of votes ... 19! And then the 5s and 6s are one number apart.
This is a stunning portrait and I am so glad that it got you a ribbon.
I hope this beautiful young lady is soon in remission.

Beautiful image of this beautiful girl. Love her eyes. Congrats on your ribbon. The image and her expression makes me feel her hope and faith.
07/03/2009 11:56:55 AM
Thought provoking
07/03/2009 11:53:31 AM
I just spent about 5 minutes with this image trying to answer your question of what it makes me feel. I don't have the words ... Now, as I am typing, I feel gratitude for my life and gratitude to this beautiful person and to you, the photographer, for the experience.
07/03/2009 08:48:07 AM
Congratulations on your Ribbon, this is really a beautiful moving portrait, she is really a beautiful woman and it shows her beauty within.
07/03/2009 08:23:05 AM
Congrats on the ribbon. This is very moving.
07/03/2009 08:15:57 AM
This is so beautiful, powerful, and poignant -- I think it deserved first place. But I'm glad you got a ribbon. Congratulations.
07/03/2009 08:13:24 AM
Very touching. Very touching
Congrats for the Ribbon
07/03/2009 07:15:27 AM
Congrats on your ribbon, a very moving photo/title
07/03/2009 05:19:34 AM
Congratulations on all counts, Susan! Although this makes me feel sad, it also makes me feel proud of her - even though I know nothing about her. Her eyes do draw you in and she looks strong, yet somewhat afraid. I hope and pray her next chapter is a happy one.
07/03/2009 12:57:14 AM
I thought this was a lovely, ethereal portrait, and then when I saw the title I felt another level of appreciation. Congratulations!
07/03/2009 12:56:39 AM
Awesome, and very touching.................. I can almost feel her reach seeking answers, but acceptance at the same time
07/03/2009 12:48:32 AM
Pure and poignant, a very emotional image but without pathos. She has the most beautiful eyes. Big congrats on your ribbon, Susan.
07/03/2009 12:28:41 AM
congrats on 3rd place, touching image.
07/03/2009 12:27:24 AM
Sad it is, great capture in the eyes yes, we need to get this stuff cured...congrats on a ribbon for the powerful shot.
07/03/2009 12:19:24 AM
it is so strange seeing hope in the eys of someone in her condition. excellent photo, big congrats on the ribbon
07/03/2009 12:18:56 AM
congrats on your ribbon, and i applaud you for taking DPC to new places
07/03/2009 12:09:11 AM
Susie, when I look at this I see one thing: "CONFORMITY"

...not to say that this photo is, but I would've darkened it up a bit. Anyway, I laughed when I realized I was thinking about conformity in a contest with the title "Never Before Seen"

seldom seen, indeed. and a lovely portrait. well done.
07/02/2009 01:20:47 PM
Couldn't find anything like it. Very tastefully done. The overexposure makes it ethereal. Very impressive -- moved it from an 8 to a 9
07/02/2009 11:43:10 AM
Very Poetic
07/01/2009 05:20:46 PM
Well done, tasteful, soft and pretty. Not the typical face of "C"...
07/01/2009 05:09:33 PM
Extremely Powerful
07/01/2009 04:05:57 PM
Haunting, but I found the light/shadow on her left ear distracting.
07/01/2009 10:27:33 AM
beautifully done.
07/01/2009 06:17:48 AM
Beautiful image. She's stunning and your high key capture, with the face paint and white background, really emphasise her eyes.

(I didn't comment on the title as I don't know that the image is about the hair loss/ cancer - at least, not to me as a viewer)
06/30/2009 11:14:34 PM
"C"ute?
06/30/2009 05:16:33 PM
Excellent high key picture. After seeing the title my heart goes out to her. Keep the faith. She's a beautiful girl.
06/29/2009 12:59:08 AM
Just like my hair, good luck
06/28/2009 05:04:44 PM
i.m.o. i would have darkend it
06/28/2009 01:49:57 AM
as much as I admire they courage, it is seen far to often. :( this gets a 6 from me.
06/27/2009 10:53:13 PM
Your title confuses me - not sure what it means or how it corresponds to your image. I do like the brightness, yet for me, a portrait isn't unique or "never seen."
06/27/2009 07:18:18 PM
Beautiful eyes that just look right through you. Great portrait.
06/27/2009 05:19:01 PM
This should be on a poster. It's a very moving picture.
06/27/2009 04:43:18 PM
Good shot. Doesnt take advantage of the challenge imho
06/27/2009 03:42:39 PM
A striking image. Light on white... (not voting)
06/27/2009 12:55:17 PM
Lovely high key portait, and stunning eyes. Great Job.
06/27/2009 10:56:01 AM
this is an excellent subject...but I think they did a challenge for Cancer awhile back...
06/27/2009 12:20:17 AM
this is a very moving capture
06/26/2009 10:52:48 PM
Stunning portrait. 10
06/26/2009 10:20:48 PM
Beautiful eyes!
06/26/2009 07:11:13 PM
Beautiful portrait. I'm hoping/guessing the eyebrows mean the lack of head hair is a fashion choice and not chemo. 8

This image needs much longer than a couple of seconds to take in. Maybe its because I, like many people have lost a loved one to that letter. This is a compelling image to look at and your model is saying so much with their eyes and pose. A faultless hi key image, a stunningly attractive model. I'm sure you will score well in this challenge but imho this should have gone in High Contrast IV (if it was taken within the dates). This has to be a real portrait (the C word again?) so I wish you all the best for the future.
06/26/2009 01:50:58 PM
Wow - beautiful, strong, emotional photo. I love the look on her face - it looks more like hope, intrigue, contempt - not fear or sadness. The C word is very dreaded but also very real for alot of people. Great job!
06/26/2009 10:09:24 AM
powerful, would be a good entry for high contrast as well.
06/26/2009 07:34:04 AM
Bless her. Beautiful eyes. Love the high key. This one is better than most I've seen yet. 7
06/26/2009 07:01:32 AM
Lovely picture, in my top 10 for sure.
06/26/2009 01:31:40 AM
beautiful, I think I've seen it before on DPC, but it's still a wonderful shot
