The installation was created by local artist Brian Goggins and it has been housed by this abandoned four-story building sitting at the corner of 6th street and Howard street in San Fransiscio, California, since 1997. This multi-disciplinary sculptural mural involves seemingly animated furniture : tables, chairs, lamps, grandfather clocks, a refrigerator, and couches, their bodies bent like centipedes, fastened to the walls and window-sills, their insect-like legs seeming to grasp the surfaces.

Well this is doing much better than I thought it would. I've shot this building before, after a DPC GTG sfalice showed me this building and I took these

on a typical San Francisco summer day; gray and overcast. So in editing I added the nicer sky and sliced in the clearer looking street in the reflections.

Since that was verbotten here I tried to cut out the sky ( it was gray and overcast, surprise!) , skewed the image to make it balanced and developed to bring out the textures that have developed over time as this work peels and rots.

Definitely hadn't heard of this building before. I wish I had known about it when I went to San Fran in 2007. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the ribbon!

Congratulations on your ribbon. Now why didn't I think of that! I live over in Oakland and travel to SF occassionally. I have previously photographed that building before, but didn't think of that subject for this challenge.

You are correct. This building is difficult to photograph. The weather doesn't generally cooperate and the available angles for a good shot are few.

So, I commend you on your success here. I also appreciate the commentary regarding the sculpture. Given how strange this building is, you would think it would get more national visibility. The sculpture title is Defenestration.

This definitely took a lot of setup...Especially love the bird in the lower window. Was that your plan or did he just happen to show up?
