I painted this orchid with light from a flashlight in the darkness of my laundry room(I really need to set up a proper studio).

I was a little stumped in the beginning about how to compose this shot until I noticed the center leaf and the right leaf and how they seemed to flow as if being shaped by an underwater current. So I added the leaf on the left to balance things out a little.

The use of a flashlight allows me to apply raking light to dramatic effect to bring out the texture of the plant.

Yes, but don't you need to be able to see in the dark hehehe. I never thaought about it, but I see how you could get just the right raking light--and you did. I like the watery flow to this, & esp the good-enough-to-eat scrumptious tangerine orange flowers. Tres Mujeres or even Tres Guajiras.

This is a beautiful photo. I love the way you light your subjects. Lighting and I don't get along that well so I can appreciate your time and effort. Great job!

I can't quite picture how you do that with the flashlight...I want to try it when I get my remote shutter switch ! The result you achieved is just impeccable ! Your Orchid collection must be stunning or are they yours....

That is a very beautiful composition. You were right on about the leaves too. I'd personally like to see a bit more really bright sparkly lights thrown in here and there. Your darks are perfect though. Nice leading lines :)
