 I don't think I need to explain this nightmare many of us have had the night before a trip to the dentist :-)
I'm not a Dentist myself, but do business with several and got permission to use the office of one for this on her day off. I'm not sure she will appreciate what this image says about the public perception of her profession though!

The setup was a little tricky on this one as I shot it alone and had to use my reflection in my UV filter to get a rough idea of the composition. If I did it again I would have my laptop there to view the composition and do a remote capture. I wanted glaring lights in the background for a "clinical scariness" so threw a lot of light in the foreground with a Fong Whaletail Studio diffuser mounted on my flash unit. The processing was really quite basic; mainly some shadow and curve adjustments. All in all I'm quite happy with the way this turned out.

Well thank you all for your votes and great comments. I'm very happy to have this on my profile page now as it separates two images of the Space needle and adds a little diversity.
Ironically, the dentist whose office I borrowed to shoot this image wants a print of it. That will be great for business hanging on her wall!

I was at the dentist yesterday, and noticed he looked very much like this. I showed him the photo on my iPhone, and he thought it was a hoot. He especially liked the eyes -- me too -- but he was also very interested in the details of the equipment. You did a great job on this. Can't imagine how you managed it alone.

Getting a ribbon is as easy as pulling teeth. Dentistry is painless these days. I had my first tooth pulled this year. The wide angle, almost fisheye adds to this efect. It's those EYES, they're really scary!

i didnt vote in this challenge, but i did look thru it ..
this was the winner in my book ..
i even called ppl into the room to see it ..
totally brilliant shot, a nightmare that i've had a i know heaps of other ppl have too ..

Humor is always appreciated and this is very funny in several ways. On the other hand, dentists are a profession not held in the highest regard by all and a visit can be a terror to those with that phobia.

Not only is this an awesome picture, but it truly IS my nightmare. Last time I was at the dentist, I had a massive panic attack - now I don't know how I'll go back again (still need the work done) and THIS IS NOT HELPING!!! :-)
