Apologies for the lack of creativity in this. This is the 3rd time I've done a shot like this for a challenge. These are my previous two:

I actually think this is technically the best of the lot.

I was only doing pretty much exactly the same thing again as I thought it'd count for the DPC-O. But it won't :-( Still, I've shot it now so in it goes.

Used an aperture setting of F18 so I could slow the shutter speed right down to get the creamy smooth motion blur behind. The trouble with doing that is you have to have good panning skills, as you have to track the train that bit longer. I'm not saying I do have such skills, but I took around 150 shots and this is the best.

Editing in no particular order:
Lightroom adjustments: crop, rotate, contrast, clarity, exposure, WB, curves, vibrance, NR, sharpening, overall saturation, then twiddled with the saturation sliders for yellow, green, blue and aqua. Then export from lightroom as a TIF file with 640 pixel size. Then I opened up the TIF in PSP and saved it as a JPEG on the maximum quality permitted to get within the file size limit.

Very nice. The color bands set off the silver and white, and the detail is sharp and clear. Defines "speedy". Good work.

Great execution here to keep the train in focus, it must have been jetting pretty quickly.

excellent panning! i think i'll see this one pretty close to top, i wonder what speed you used... and i can't believe that yours is the only one with panning used. when i saw this one i thought: of course, it's b***y obvious that this is THE way to tell that trains drive. and this one looks fast.

I love that yellow and you did a really good job of keeping the train in focus while the background blurred, please write up how you did this because I would love to read it in your comments afterward.

My favourite of the challenge - the panning is superb, and your choice of location, with the bright rape field in the foreground,is spot on. A very impressive image.
