At the last Bay Area GTG jdannels and I were talking about how to get various shots from Yerba Buena Island, and when this challenge came up I decided to try to figure out If I could get down to this spot on the island, legally.
If you are going to get here you can park in the visitor parking lot in the housing on top of the hill, Nimitz or any of the streets up top. Follow the trail counterclockwise and you will see a fence to your right eventually you will cross over the top of the tunnel for this view keep going keeping the fence on your right and circle the island almost to the other side of the island. When you can see the west bound entrance there is a gate in the fence. Scramble through the gate and down the hill and you are on the road that feeds the west bound traffic. Follow this road up hill with the coast guard base on your left now moving clockwise. At the end of the coast guard base the fence cuts downhill to the bay, follow it, and you will end up above the crumbly cliff face of the bay, find your shooting spot.
If you are going for a twilight shot remember to bring a flashlight, cause your car is about thirty hardscramble minuets away right now.

My fave of the shoot

This was my favorite image of the challenge, but I'm admittedly a little bit biased. My money was on Joe after that conversation during the GTG, but it's great that you took this one, Brennan. Thanks for posting the directions, which I will be following as soon as possible.

Nice Brennan! I wondered how you did this legally. I figured you may have done the car drop off trick at the bend in the road overlooking the Bay Bridge.

eta: not editing it legally, getting to the location legally! :)

Great color and contrast, the image grain doesn't work well for this image, try removing it.

bumping up after 2nd viewing; the city fits perfectly under the bridge, cropped and filling the frame very nicely.

The shot of the bridge is very nice. If the shot was taken at night time and was converted to grayscale it could have been a bit more interesting though.

Fairly horrible looking picture, just as a postcard should be.

a little too saturated for this kind of coloring for me

Perfect - iconic imagery, colorful, lights right on the edge and the sky and buildings are complimentary. The transparent frame works on this and the font and font colors are appropaite both for the picture and for the city itself. Great capture and processing.

No vote, just commenting. This is a great shot , makes a perfect postcard. the colors are great. Though I feel that the font & font color selection could have been improved.

Nice classic image, but looks like a bit of noise got in the sky.

Very pretty. The sky is a little noisy on my monitor but still a very pretty picture.

A beautiful night shot and what is a classic scene from San Francisco. I would buy this postcard. I would love to visit there some day.

This really does look like one that'd pop out to your eye on one of those carousel postcard stands. :~)
