Not really a hidden gem, but certainly my best shot of the cone and the foxfur nebula. This is a composite of 5x12min HA filtered exposures and 5x4min RGB images luminance layered for contrast and depth (and elimination of light pollution). Lens was my 10" newtonian telescope, guided with a losmandy g11, taken with a canon 350xt.

Thanks for all the great comments, not so great comments, insight and inspiration. For anyone who couldn't find the fox and would like the where's waldo answer key, here it is.

Bizarre how some people focus on either the title or the frame and nothing else.

For me, a gentle reminder that we are not as big as we act like we think we are. This shot is very nice combination of black, blue, and he red.

Beautiful shot! Amazing colors! I'm not sure about the border. You did a great job!

OK, I have to admit this one's a little disappointing for me. The capture is fantastic, but the blackness of space is about 80% gray here, and that lack of contrast robs the image of much of its impact. So close to awesomeness! 8

Beautiful celestial shot, I'd like to try something like this someday... The stars look so cool when they're like exes like that.

I'm hoping to leave comments on as many photo's in this challenge as possible... this was one of the few images I scored a 10. One of my criteria for scoring a 10 is "Would I have this photo on my wall?" and for this one, I surely would.

Stellar photography instills such a sense of wonderment in me, I grew up looking at photographs like this in glossy books, and this picture would stand up against any others that I have seen. Simply awesome!

As I wrote in another entry comment... I find it hard to assess astronomy photos in the way I would photos of any other subject, considering their specialized nature. This looks quite professional and attractive, however.

Very nicely done. I don't know a lot about this genre of photography, so I can't really tell you anything other than my personal opinion. I like the contrasts between the blues and the pinks and the sense of another world that it conveys.

I'm sorry but this is not photography to me. I know how this works, hooking up to the telescope, etc. I dont like it because without a telescope, this wouldn't be possible, and I guess I prefer photos straight from a camera.
