 On my trip to Nicaragua in January of 2009, I visited the island of Ometepe. This island was formed by two volcanoes, Conception and Mederas. As I was taking the ferry back to the mainland at sunset, I was treated to a pretty amazing site, which is what you see here.

Though this is an active volcano, this is not an eruption that you're seeing here. Clouds constantly swirl around the crater of the volcano, which gives some pretty dramatic cloud formations. The rainbow was just the icing on the cake.

There was quite a bit of processing that went into this photo. This is a manual HDR made from 3 separate exposures. Layers for the water, front treeline, volcano, clouds, and background. Each was colour corrected, dodged, burned, leveled separately.

This is going to be such a tough challenge, I'll be happy if I get in the mid 5's with this!
