This is a jumping spider I was fortunate enough to get onto a piece of white printer paper today. These little guys are so fascinating to me. They are only about 1/8" long but, oh, those eyes! If you've never seen these types of spiders before (or even if you have) check out some of the courtship videos on this page of the Tree of Life Web Project.

Wow.. I've never seen a spider like this. What a big head it has.. Great deatils and macro.. The light and the paper gave it a great contrast.. Congrat.

Terrific macro photo of an unusual subject. Fits the theme well. Obviously
a fine camera, given the clarity of the zoom. And
the white background contrasts well with the multi colored spider so
the composition is good too. Even if you don't like spiders, this picture
is hard to ignore. Well done. An 8

cool. that's one ugly-ass spider. looks like he's wearing aviator sunglasses :) love the shallow depth, and you've done a pretty good job onthe lighting/backdrop, though the shadows have a lot of colour noise in them. nice work. P

Hope there`s nobody who suffers from arachnophobia on the site as they`ll have a seizure after this one pops up on the screen.
Brilliantly captured

At last - an image that represents the reason for a centred composition. Excellent subject - a little noisy but he's just GREAT! These little fellas never cease to entertain me with their awesome vision and characterful movement. Long live spiders.

Nice high-key work, DOF effective, the light perhaps just a shade too even on the little critter to give much sense of texture and fine detail. Difficult subject though - especially if (s)he's alive. Think I'd have worked just a little more on taking the background tho white - still some blue noise visible in areas. Close though. 6

Fantastic! My only complaint would be that a little more DOF would be nice, but that's damn tough on a shot like this. Also, if the two main front eyes were centered. But these are nit-picks....8

That's one scary bugger! Nice shot. The shadow is kinda noisy though.

I almost entered the same type of set-uo, so I obviously like the simple, clean composition. I apologize, but I really can't focus on this much detail of an insect in my face - personal distaste.

I also entered a spider, but mine is plastic. I like yours so much better. Great focus, great shadow, great color. The lighting is a bit bright, washing out the photo a bit. I love the photo over all :)

Parts of the subject (back legs) are out of focus. Since there's nothing else in the image, this flaw tends to stand out more than it may in a shot with other design elements.

probably been told this already.. but could have benifited from using neat image to take away the pixilation..

A square crop would have made this better, emphasizing the spidey better, the negative space is too much to the right and the left.
