This pic is trickier than you would think,,, the problem with taking a pic of an apple is that you don't want it to be shiny, and also, the apple is round, so it's tough to get the drips to stay there and not roll off... the trick that I figured out when taking this pic was to rub Vaseline all over the apple, then pretty much wipe most of it off... this gives it a dull sheen so that the sight source doesn't reflect too much, and also it allows for large water drips to bead up nicely and stay where you put them without rolling off =)

The light source is an AlienBees B400 flash head with a 24x36 softbox from behind... the tripod was about 5 feet away and 4 feet high, with the head tilted at approx and angle of depression of about 45-60 degrees... this back-lighting is what makes the drips look so nice...

anyways... not expecting that high of a score because this is such an overdone shot... I just took it because I have always wanted to take a pic like this so I can blow it up huge and hang in my kitchen...

we'll see how it does... =)

This may be an "overdone" shot, but I REALLY appreciate that you took the time to comment on what it took to make it work. I'm a very low end glorified amateur. Knowing what goes into it helps me appreciate it. I cruise this site looking for ideas on what makes a composition "work" and to see how the high end amateurs and real professionals treat subject matter. What they HAVE to get right in the shot, and what they can take care of in editing. Thanks again!
