The cicadas are here! I was reading in the Washington Post that they surface every 17 years. I saw this one while getting the morning news paper. He had just emerged from his shell. A strange and beautiful insect. I made changes to contrast, color, and sharpness using Photoshop Elements.

Is this a real insect? It seems plastic to me. Had never seen a cicada before.

I don't remember seeing this in the challenge - but I would have. I love it. It's why I like photography so much - it allows me to see things I wouldn't otherwise be able.

Amazing shot! I might have cropped it even more, but I've looked at this several times, and each time thought "what an amazing shot!!" Good work and good luck in the challenge. I hope I get this good some day...

This image caught my attention the second I saw it. WOW! Amazing luck in capturing this! Great center balance, excellent DOF, and a striking subject. I live in Maryland and still haven't come close to seeing this. :) This was my automatic, and only 10. Excellent!

Very cool, I've never seen this before. I'm thinking that maybe the frame should be "portrait" to go better with the subject? The dark green is great, giving nice contrast with the subject.

Pretty, but really creepy too! 7

Excellent detail - man he loks like a plastic toy - and great light, especially the rich green of the background. suitably regular and symmetrical subject to carry the composition (unlike so many who've just plonked something dead centre without a thought). Hope it does well - has an oddness that I like. 7

Would also be a good entry for the "Horror Movie Poster" challenge - those things are ugly. Great sharpness.
