This is Selina again. She's been nominated for Best New Talent at the WA Country Music Awards.

Straight conversion from raw, Levels adjustment layer to make background white, masked her and the guitar out, curves adjustment layer to darken the top of the guitar to better match the rest of it, merged visible, general curves adjustment to increase contrast, spot healing brush to take out skin spots, burned the line around the irises as per idnics pimp the eyes tutorial, then sponged the whites to desaturate them then painted white in 10% overlay to really bring out the whites of the eyes, spot healded scar on right cheek, new layer by copy, gauss blur at 4.5, erased all but over face, merged visible, resized, usm twice, first at 50% 0.9, then 30% 0.6, 8 bits per channel, saved for web.

Greetings from the Critique Club

The Guitartist is a very well composed and overall good looking photograph. I like the simplicity even though there are details that make this image intricate. For example I like the simple lighting complimented with the white background. Then in contrast we have nice strong details coming across in the guitar itself and her expression. The small details are what truly draw the eye into the image.

I think when we enter into the Free Study challenges we have to be willing to do it for ourselves and not so much the ribbon. I think it is the hardest challenge to enter. I think if this exact photo had been entered into a specific category like instruments, musicians or something like that you would have seen a much higher placement.

You have a great eye, as well as the ability to put together well composed and clean shots. I really look forward to more entries from you in the future.

In my short time here I found that I really like white backgrounds. Im not much for portraits tho but I like this one a lot. The green guitar is pretty and the girls eyes really come out from it. 8

This is really cool. My only nitpick is that the way her legs are posed is not the best, but I love everything else.

Very well executed portrait. The tenseness of her left hand seems a bit at odds with the relaxed pose suggested by her draped right arm though.
