Challenge: Ansel Adams II (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Nikon D50
Lens: Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM for Nikon
Location: Sutro's Bath, at the end of the tunnel, SF
Date: Jan 18, 2009
Aperture: 13
ISO: 200
Shutter: 313
Galleries: Black and White, Seascapes
Date Uploaded: Jan 18, 2009

I am really excited this did so well! It was a real long exposure and I used a graduated ND filter to tone down the sky and shot in bulb mode just after sunset.

I more or less did my normal black and white conversion process which you can find here. Except I used the shadows/highlights only on the bottom portion of the image and ran NI in the sky and water. Then did some dodge and burn. I think the color version came out well and will upload that soon. :)

Thank you everyone for the votes and comments, I feel some of the constructive criticism to be very accurate.

You just keep getting better and better, Joe. When does your book come out? No, seriously.
As much as this version says "Ansel" to me, I think I actually like the color version better.
Awesome post, as usual. Congrats on the Blue :O)

Ansel Adams makes stuff look bigger. This makes stuff look smaller. But it's a nice picture.

'Grats, Joe. Just seems perfectly fitting for the blue ribbon to go to the guy who does marvelous landscapes, particularly different kinds of landscapes, and who does exceptional black and white conversions.

Lovely image - the 'smoke' on the water works very nicely here and the lines from the rocks really drives us into the scene. Congrats on the Blue

Good B&W conversion. I like the shot and the softness/mist of the water between the rocks. Nice work!

Looks unreal. I feel like I might be stepping through the bog on Yoda's planet. Star Wars geeks can flame me now for not knowing the name. haha
I would have tried to underexpose the sky just a tad to bring out the "mist" of the water against the dark rocks.

Great depth and tone. Interesting composition. I wonder what prompted you to leave the two points of light in the far mountains. Definitely one of my favorites for the challenge.

Very nice. I love the white mist in between the strong dark rocks. It may have been even better if you panned right a little to get more of the rocks on the right that have sun on them, leaving a little less of the boring rocks on the left.
