This is the last picture I ever took of my Father.

In February of this year, a few weeks from the date of this photo, he was hunting in the estuaries of southern Jersey about 2 miles from where this photograph was taken. We believe his boat capsized in the rough waters, and he and his 2 friends never returned. This picture was the final one on my memory card the last time we went hunting together, and it is the last photograph I will have ever taken of him. It is my best photograph of 2008.

Rest in peace, Pop.

Wow, my condolences on your loss. I'm glad for you that you have this wonderfully captured memento. He really does look like he enjoyed this sport very much. What a wonderful tribute to him.

I liked the shot well enough to begin with but add the commentary and it takes on new significance. I'm so sorry for your loss - it sounds as though you and he were good friends, and that's worth a lot in this world. You'll carry him with you always, and from what I can tell, he raised a very fine man.

Great photo and background information. I'm very sorry about your father, but clearly you had a special relationship with him. Perhaps the goose is a tad to centered, but I would have voted it highly on execution, subject matter and interest. (And that is without the BG information.)

Adam--really cool that you were able to capture this genuine portrait of your dad. It means more than any old ribbon and I'm glad you chose this for your entry.

I'm sorry for your loss.

I don't have a relationship with my father, so it's always wonderful for me to see and hear about the stories of people that do/did.

May he rest in peace, and thank you for sharing this with us.

What a blessing to have spent times like these with your dad. I'm sorry for your loss. The photograph is really wonderful... even without the story.

A great image, a classic AP type photo and a wonderful and happy rememberance of your Pop.

What a horrific story. I am so sorry to hear about your father passing (even if it is now almost a year gone by).

I gave this an 8. Mixed feelings on viewing, but a good capture of the sportsman in his element. Having now read your comments ... a serendipitous photograph.

Adam - I know its been nearly a year since his passing, but I am so sorry for your loss. Though his death was obviously untimely, at least it happened in the pursuit of something he enjoyed & out in the wilderness it appears he had a great passion for. Best wishes in this new year, my friend...

Well lit scene. Did you use a flash? Sharpness and composition works well.

Sadly, though he was a little happy with the goose that he got, his real target got away. He swore though, to keep on hunting, to keep on pursuing that elusive prey.

He swore that he would get Cheney back for that little incident so many years ago.

I like the wide angle perspective alot. I think it would have been even more effective if the camera were a little lower and angled up more. So the horizon went through the hunter's knees maybe, instead of cutting him in half. I love the texture fo the sky behind him and the subtle backlighting. Nice processing, too. 6 from me.

the use of wide angle and low perspective really gives this image a lot of life and energy
