Challenge: Best of 2008 (Advanced Editing VII*)
Camera: Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT
Location: Bedford, NH
Date: Sep 2, 2008
Galleries: Astrophotography
Date Uploaded: Jan 12, 2009

Took this shot over the course of 2 nights in September using my 10" newtonian telescope from my backyard in Bedford, NH. This is a composite of 5 10 minute exposures with a IDAS light pollution filter and 5 10 minute exposures with a hydrogen alpha filter. The hydrogen alpha filter allows me to shoot through sky fog and pollution and isolate the red part of the nebula. I then combined the HA image with the red channel of the original which adds depth and contrast to the image. Once combined I then adjusted color channels, contrast and some selective repair of overbrightened stars.

Nice work here from your 85th place neighbor!

I gave you a 7 in this challenge... Its pretty good, but your Orion photo I thought was your best I've seen. That'll probably be the standard I hold you to!

I would love to attend a workshop on how to do this. I used to love looking for constellations.

I'll always score good, even decent, astrophotography high, because I have such envy and respect for those who can do it. This is very good. I wish I had studied astronomy...

I'm staring and staring, but I just can't see a trunk. Fabulous image though, it's a privilege to be able to see so deep into space :)

I seriously can't tell the difference between your shots and the Hubble's. Nice nebula there!
