Baby Samuel using my Sigma 15-30mm lens. Perspective distortion makes it look a bit surreal. I like it. Hopefully top 3 of the baby pics for this challenge; I realise there will be a ton of them.

He is the cutest baby! Just look at those eyes. I can't believe he is 1 year old now.

I think this should be a 20"x30" for the wall in your home. Awesome shot!!! It really does look like he is holding the camera. :)

What a cracker! Just a gem. As e301 says, it looks like he's holding the camera himself. Very funny and it really doesn't matter how many there are - this was a good choice for the challenge (as your score shows!).

Thanks for the comments guys. I think I got 58 before the voting was over. Wow!

Needs a little bit of explaining. I never even read the description of the challenge. It said Something New II. Since it used "II" and I remembered last time's descrription, I didn't feel I needed to look. That is why I was predicting so many baby pictures in my "Photographer's comments".
05/17/2004 03:29:47 AM
Doesnt meet the challenge;)

Great pic, love it...but didn't meet the challenge, I thought this baby looked familure, I saw him in your past work and new it was yours, I called it (and now that I've read the other comments it looks as if some others reconized the face too)...and yet knew that it was still going to beat mine...man, great job though...like you need anyone to reasure your work.

What a "Yahoo" expression. Your full-face shot emphasizes the eyes, nose and mouth. One of my favorites this challenge!

I've been avoiding this shot :-) Looks like the baby itself has taken it - the angle of the arms - and it really emphasises the eyes, to a creepy extent almost. It could almost be a clever montage of an adult and a baby's portraits.

Fantastic shot. I think I recognize this mini-Jacko. I love the expression, and the eyes are perfect. I somehow don't believe you've never shot this subject before, but you're getting a 10 anyway, cuz with his arms the way they are, it looks like little Samuel is holding the camera out in front of him and taking his own picture! 10.

Cute baby, but if that is your baby I can't imagine that this would be something new. I would have a million photos of my baby if I had one. Good photo though.

Added: Well I guess I read the challenge wrong, said something you haven't entered before in a place where you haven't taken a photo. Well I have no idea where you took this and if you ever taken one there before. Anyway took away a point cause I first thought you didn't meet the challenge, adding it back now :)

Don't know what it is, but i normally hate baby shots. it's a matter of principal perhaps, it's kind of a cross between blatant showing off, usually of snapshot quality and a dire lack of originality with no evidence of forethought. whereas this is completely opposite to the norm and is totally fantastic. truly, the only great baby shot ever. The expression on the sprog is, though a bit on the mad / insane side, is riotuous and fantastic. Also, technically, the quality of the shot is one of the best of the week. Getting a living thing this sharp and clean is very difficult (i find), and this is flawless. 9.

new and a fresh perspective, great capture, a bit of bounce light on the left would have helped but still the best of the bunch thus far. 9

Very cute picture! Looks like it would go on one of those baby greeting cards. The only thing I can see wrong that would make this a perfect picture to me is that the lighting is more even so you would not see the hard shadows.

well, this is certainly not a new face to DPC but who could ever take points away from an image like this?!?! it looks like Sam is holding the camera up and taking his own pic...lol...what a little doll he is!

I might recognize this little guy, Jacko. You certainly have one of the most photogenic babies and you do a tremendous job with those images. This should get the blue ribbon. If this is not a jacko entry I apologize. Either way I just gave you very high praise. The image, however, speaks for itself.

What eyes! The dialated pupils make this image really unique. Exposure perfect. Deoth of field perfect. Not too sure it needs the border - but that's a very minor point! Overall - a real "wow"!

This is a really nicely focused shot and that is some expression you've captured. I gave it a five though because, honestly, this image creeps me out and I don't think it's meant to. The baby's head looks weirdly huge because of this perspective combined with the naturally disproportionate head infants have. The eyes make me think of those creepy CGI commercials using babies and animals in unatural ways. I'm sure this is a really cute baby. This shot just isn't flattering him or her.

What an expression. The way the arms are placed, it almost looks like the baby is taking it's own picture. The bright light on one side makes the eyes different colors and different iris openings, making the face a little lopsided.

Fabulous expression - great lighting. More than just a snap of a baby, a really nice composition, skin tone is wonderful and the eyes are great. It almost looks like the baby is holding the camera and taking the photo.

I am rather over baby photos in general ... but this is absolutely sensational, I love it! Those huge eyes almost look faked, as do the lips, but as they are not it is just wonderful. A definite photo for the collection there. 10

WOW look at those big eyes!!! Very cute! If you look at this picture closely it almost looks as if he's holding the camera taking a self portrait. Guess it's the way his arms are angled. (Hope it's a he, sorry if not!)
