 This shot was taken around dawn at Lake Las Vegas, a really pretty place if you get a chance to go.

I got up early to shoot the sunrise with what was then a brand new lens and a pretty new camera.

The set of shots I got that morning were the first images I had taken that looked like 'proper' photos (once edited anyway!)

The edit:

A bit of sharpening
A bit of straightening
A bit of lens correction
Some change to individual saturation levels and the black point
I cloned out half a boulder which encroached mid right and a couple of very small highlights under the centre span of the bridge.
The lower foreground was already in shadow so I added a slight vignette to balance the whole image.

POST CHALLENGE:

So pleased that this image made it to 6 by the end of voting - that was my target! One of my goals for 2009 is to only have 6+ images on my front page.

very pretty scene with excellent focus and dof. Colors work and are well treated. I could argue that the top 1/3 could be removed with no loss (making the image a square crop) but that might be a personal preference. It would strengthen the geometry of the piece though. 7

great vision to see the good light here - not convinced about the overt blue in the sky and water - but the light on the buildings is outstanding
