To answer hojop25's query...

This bird, and many like him, inhabit a trail near where I used to live. So many people hike the trail and walk their dogs there, the birds have become quite tame and will eat seeds right out of the hand. I bought a large bag of seed at a local pet store and I always have a small bag of it with my camera equipment.

This image was shot in winter when the birds are especially eager to take food they don't have to forage for.

I also find that the best shots, especially wildlife/insects/etc. come from spending a lot of time in one spot. Animals get used to you hanging around if you don't move too much or make a lot of noise. Patience is rewarded.

Fantastic shot of a Coal Tit... they won't let me get within 15 feet in my garden. Very flighty. It must have taken a lot of patience to train one to feed from the hand. Lovely and sharp where it counts and depth of field makes the subject leap from the photo. A bird in the hand indeed! Top 3 in my eyes

i think the knockles should be in frame....and it would look better if bird was looking to the seeds....and a bit more of cloth...

Wow, this is really good! Even the cuff is just the right type of fabric to look out-doorsy. The texture of the corn shows up well and the DOF is just perfect.
