this is my mother. i apprehensively asked her if she would mind posing for this challenge and she did not hesitate, except to say i would break my camera! if you think that she looks too young to be in this challenge then you confirm my own belief that she is quite lovely and looks much younger then her 70 years on this earth.
I bumped the exposure a bit and sharpened in lightroom but other than that and converting to black and white i wanted this to be as real as possible. she would prefer i use some kodak air brush or other photoshop magic but i don't think she needs it. this shot truly shows her personality, always ready with a smile or laugh. anyone who knows her would agree. Love you mom! thanks for posing.

What a ride this week! I am very happy to have a new personal best. SandyP kept telling me the 6.47 it spent alot of time at was in the hunt for a ribbon but when i looked at the caliber of some of the other shots i was not holding my breath. As always my goal is only to get a personal best so no compaints here!

Good job to score so well with a non-elderly looking model! Very nicely lit, and your mom is hot!

Hehehe tell your mom my first thought was "who would ask a 50 year old woman to pose for a 'portrait of the elderly' challenge?!" :D:D She looks great!

I did not vote in this challenge I rarely vote for the challenges that I participate, I just feel nervous about any bias on my side affecting my voting; I appreciate very much that you do). But, if I was to vote, it would be a 10 for me. It is complete for me. It is such a delightful capture. And lights and tones are just perfect. I wish to take as good a picture of my mother as you did, soon. :-)

Good Day Jason! Wonderful work!

Splendid. And she does not look "elderly" enough to meet the challenge at all. :-) Huge congrats on the new personal best! And best of all, you have a GREAT picture of your mom - excellent work.

Jason, you DID IT! A Personal Best! What a tribute to your beautiful mother! I personally think it is still quite underrated, but I'm so happy that it is your proudest and highest rated photo on your profile page. Her smile is radiant. I think I would love to know her!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

Nice work on the face. Not sure about the drop. It's a bit to center for my taste.

Nice portrait and a great expression. I think there is a little too much empty space on the right side of the image though, perhaps if you cropped a little of that dark area out on the right it would have been better.

This is excellent. I think you could even crop out the right 25% of this shot.

I think I would have framed the subject a little more to the left where the subject is looking left out of the frame, but I do like the BW and the lighting. I like the genune happiness of the subject as well

Not voting on this one, but I had to comment. I think this portrait is a standout in this challenge. She is absolutely radiant, and the technical aspects on this are flawless! Good Luck! It should most definitely be in the very top few -- in my opinion.

Very nice portrait and model! I also like very much the lighting and sharpness. If there's anything, I am not enthusistic of the composition. Maybe having the subject a bit more on the right, so that you could have some more blank space on the left, would have given some space for her look to go through. Or maybe cropping out the right side of the image, cutting away the earring, would have better drawn the attention on her face. Just my thought. Anyway one of my favourite images of the challenge.
