Thanks to Egill Bjarki Jónsson ( egillbjarki)and Lev Tsimring ( LevT) for the inspiration from their wonderful portraits of their fathers. I saw these two photos and had to try something similar.

Meet my father, Jeff Holtmeier. Shot with a speedlight through a shoot-through umbrella right above the camera. My apologies to Jeff for emphasizing every contour and line in his face, but it seemed to bring out the drama and in-your-face closeness of the shot. Post processing was primarily burning to emphasize facial lines and dodging to brighten the eyes. He's actually a very handsome guy as seen in these shots:

It would be a really cool collection if everyone shot a similar image of their fathers.

hey Chris, just came across this photo! Very nice shot, and indeed would be interesting to have all our dads together :). On the surface, the portraits are very similar, but boy, if you look deep into their eyes, they are so different, and so engaging, each in his own way.

Very cool portrait. The light line across the top is a minor technical flaw, probably from sharpening after adding the border. But that's very minor. Great job.

Very nice portrait, expression, feel. Slight crib: The light is a bit flat at front (or so it appears to me). 8.
