As you see it really - three vases, a couple of forks, a nightlight, a luggage tab strap, parts of an AMEX statement, a laptop and OJ Simpson.

Editing - a crop, desaturation to B&W, some curves manipulation for optimum contrast, Neat Image and Smart Sharpen.

I deliberately tried to keep all of the individual elements as discreet objects without any attempt to hide what they actually are.

I have to say, it makes me laugh every time I look at it!

Critique Club

Congratulations on the high finish and a fantastic set up photograph. I loved this shot during the voting. I commented during voting as well.

Composition: Beautiful concept and staging. I still feel it is a bit tight superiorly and on the right. Mostly because I'm imagining a broadcast!

DOF and focous: I suspect manipulating the distance between your anchor and the TV would have allowed geater DOF to pull in the forks, but keep the monitor blurred. However, as is, it works quite well.

Color: Always a fan of black and white. Works very well here to give an old feeling.

Lighting: This is the one area that I think kept this from scoring higher. IMO, it needs a second strobe to light from camera right. Even lighting across the face would have gone a long way to improving the photo.

Overall: Very good, love the humor, particularly since I'm in SoCal and remember that day like it was yesterday.

Cheers and happy holidays,

-BS

Made me chuckle - the expression you've so ingeniously created with the reflections is hilarious! ;)

back for comment and bumping up :) nice b/w and great take on the challenge just one small disappointment is the close crop at the top, it would have been better composition wise with a bit more space at the top.

Dude, I'm scoring an 8 just for the O.J. reference in the background...LOL... Seriously though, very creative shot and idea...

you're right, the dark vase looks like a face with the mouth wide open.

I am not voting in this challenge, but I *love* the concept that was created here, and the innovative use of everyday things.
