This is my mother. And yes, she is not well. The picture was shot a month ago, at the hospital, where she broke her wrist and shoulder...
She is now back at our home with full time help.

This was one of the few 10's I gave, truly a powerful image. I wish her well.

Admireable, you put so much emotion in your photos. They have been my favourites for years now. While painful, photos like this are so important later. Live is all, birth and death, joy and pain. It's all part of it, you can not have one without the other. Thanks so much for sharing this and all the best to you, your mum and your family.

Happy holidays when they come so soon. I hope Mama is feeling better now. Yours was a moving photo entry in this challenge.

once again, sorry about your mother, hope she gets well soon.

a nine from me, as well, jj. this was one of the handful of images in the challenge that i felt explored photography and was entered for the sake of photography rather than for the sake of scoring--and that's what i meant with my earlier 'bravo!' peace be with you, your mother, and your family.

Ah, JJ... I was very moved by this, didn't know if I was looking at illness or death, nor did it seem to matter, I thought, for surely the latter looms close. I gave two 10's in this challenge, and this was one of my 9's.

Fantastic work from a terrible spring. May God speed her to her rest.

I'll echo Cory's remarks. I lingered with this for awhile in voting but dare not comment, for it was too real and too raw. My thoughts and best wishes to both of you.

I was afraid to comment on this photo during voting for a reason im not sure of, it struck me emotionally at first as im sure it did most viewers. Knowing now that this is a real photo and not staged makes it so much more powerful. My prayers are with you and her for her recovery.

This photo carries a deep and disturbing weight of its own and I kept returning to it throughout the week far more than any other in this challenge. A bravery exists here and strong courage. But in all honesty, if I were your mother, I would send you straight to your room for posting such a photo of me in the Master's Challenge! I do hope you will share a photo of her in happier times when she has recovered.

I wish your family well and your mother a speedy recovery.

This is absolutely the most incredible and emotionally charged image...age, suffering, love, the approach of death...it's all there and felt by the viewer.

Powerful reminder of our mortality. Her poor eyes are so sunken. 7

Outstanding image, powerful and expession of true emotion, a bit painful. I like your perspective, choice of color even though the lower half is very dark I would not have cropped it any other way. Bump up to 10.

I keep coming back to this one, and I hardly know what to say...I'm not sure I would have had the courage to take this. This is so full of grim sorrow, and yet there is love portrayed too, somehow... I'm completely blown away - this is one of those shots that I will probably never forget. A very, very powerful and moving photo. 9

A little dark. But I feel that there is a lot more detail in the face and then the detail falls off as you move away form the face. I like the look, just too dark. Creepy photo!
