This was taken on a day I won't easily forget. This slum really impacted me and I returned a second time to let it all sink in. The smell of the rot at ground level was something else! And, these kids live in it 24/7.

There are hundreds of children here, most don't go to school. Many are turned into prostitutes or drug runners as they get older. The desperation for food is enormous. Many families have 8-11 children.

Yet, they are happy and laugh and play. They don't seem to be proud or arrogant. They are closely knit and look out for one another. They do their chores washing clothes and getting water.

Our church is going to renovate the day care center which has a roof that is caving in, and floods when it rains.

So much of our world is like this. This is us, doing our little part to save some...ONE LIFE AT A TIME.

Excellent. A great POV shows us the stark reality of their world. This gets a ten from me -- my fourth ever.

A stunning capture! I love the fact that the family is normal and happy. It is their life and they are proud of it! (and so am I). Thanks for sharing.

I love the smoothness of their skin against the harshness of their environment. Great pic, looks fantastic in b&w.

Despite the apparent poverty here, the energy and vibrance of the children are apparent. Very well composed (I like the playing cards scattered on the ground) and nicely toned.
