This *IS* an actual abandoned group of old passenger train cars that is a couple of miles from my house. The rail siding that they sit on is abandoned as well.....it looks to me like they just rolled the train out to the end of the siding, unhooked the engine, and left them. They're easily accessible, and there's always a path worn through the weeds to get at them as kids have been doing for what seems like a couple of decades.

I'm sad to report....

They're GONE!!!!

They came in and cut them up and hauled the pieces away.....

Whoa! What can I say? This is just an awesome thing for me.....I've waited almost two and a half years for this, my first 7+ score.

I accomplished a couple of personal goals in one fell swoop pretty much the same as my last flash-in-the-pan ribbon.....LOL!!!

I thought when I submitted it that it would do okay....I had figured low-to mid-6, or a 4....LOL!!! I woke up last Monday to a 7.69!!! I watched it all week as it steadily dipped then for the last few days of the week, it seemed to stabilize around 7.29/7.3.

I was waaaaaaaaay okay with that!

Saturday morning it started this ugly little steady downslide that had it down to 7.11 right before rollover.....I'm massively relieved at how the vote scrubber works! LOL!!!

I specifically want to thank AperturePriority for his awesome tutorial HERE.

His technique was something that I was looking for when I wanted to learn how to get certain effects that are easy for me now that I've botched a couple hundred attempts! LOL!!! Seriously, I can get the effects that I see in my head when I snap the shutter with the help of the terrific technique of working the tone curve in the HDR converter.

I blame him for the awesome assistance in making this image just that much more interesting.

Thanks, Les!

Jeb,

I apologize for not getting back to you sooner--I've been super busy traveling for business and have barely had time to take leisure photographs.

Congrats on the ribbon! I guess my tutorial has finally been validated! Woo hoo!

I plan, starting next week, to begin entering challenges again. There will be a lull in my travels this time of year, so I'll have some time to go out and shoot.

Again, congratulations and keep up the great work!

Gosh, very Horror Movie - that tutorial obviously added finishing touches to an already creative mind - I don't know what you do for a living, but it should be this. A few rotting corpses would complete the ensemble - or even ghost images of some unfortunate street dwellers semi-transparent asleep - outer limits? Congratulations on being you and able to see this, and do it well

LOL, re your PM, yes I did think your shot was the one that won.. still, this is great capture and real glad you picked up a ribbon after that week of update button madness. I had to settle for a lowly 6th, but looking at the competition I cant really be too disappointed with that. good work!
