Dung Beetle on the road at the West Coast National Park - South Africa. This was the biggest dung ball any of my family had ever seen! This little guy quite literally has a "dirty job" and does it really well.

Cropped. Curves to bring out the bug more. Converted to B+W. Saved smaller and Unsharp masked along the way. Added frame in canvas. Saved for web.

Of course any score north of 6 is great but I'm trying to figure out why this image didn't score higher. Perhaps because the bug is mostly in the shadow of the dookie? I suggest the next time you shoot a dung beetle you request that he please place himself with his back to the sun! : )

Absolutely fantastic shot. Your DOF is perfect and I love the BW tones. Though you had some heavy competition, I still feel it should have scored higher.

Maybe other people know alot more about photography than I do, but I think you got robbed. I had this down as a 10. It was in my top three. I loved the shot and loved the black and white. I thought it was alot more creative than some of the ones that placed higher than you. Keep it up.

Good stuff! Interesting use of high contrast. I'd like to see more of the beetle.

I like the idea of this and great macro shot but, the contrast could have been a bit more which would have made this a bit more dynamic shot

Nice image - Great shot! Like the composition and lighting - Would have so loved to see a little more punch in the black and white as it all looks a little grey. Great image though.
