I had a 'hairy' caterpillar with the turtle. I was going to use and title it "The Tortoise and the Hair" (Hare), but they didn't play well together. *grin* They never were in the same spot...

[Oct. 12th, 2008 08:01:00 PM]

MaryO, I'm so pleased to be able to tell you that they are both real...

And not at all friends. *sigh* Mr. Snail wanted to check out Mr. Turtle (Theodore).
When Mr. Turtle touched him by accident as he left to get away from the stranger, Mr. Snail was startled abruptly and went into his shell... leaving Ms. Photographer with this ONE shot.

Theodore went on his merry way.

Mr. Snail went back underneath the hose reel where I found him.

I think Theodore is a young box turtle. He came to me from the side yard where I think he was eating worms (which I find vaguely disgusting, but understandable).

The subjects are perfect for Grimms tales. The tortoise does not look amused. Haha! Love the lighting and DOF!

I did come back to check :-) Still completely adorable and even more enjoyable with the story behind it! Sounds like you had to work very hard with the neighborhood fauna to get a decent shot.

Is that a baby turtle? Or tortoise, maybe. What beautifully expressive eyes. I'm going to be so disappointed if that's not real! Not sure how he fits into the fairy tale (the version I read just had Tom sleeping in a snail shell) but he's adorable.

Don't think I've ever seen two such critters together. Very, very cool.

Great job with tough models. How did you bribe them to do what you asked? By the way what kind of turtle/tortoise is this?

Very, very cute. I love the expression of the turtle. Your subjects have great personality. My only wish is that it had either a solid black background or a solid white one, or even better a nice brightly colored background. This one just seems kind of haphazardly gray and distractingly textured.

This is great - the snail and the turtle... good colors and focus. I think the image would hugely benefit from a much tighter crop.

That's so cute, the snail's head is tilting like it really is talking to the terrapin! Nice lighting and DOF.

Perhaps the left side could be cropped a little? Otherwise a nice interpretation. 8

I love this shot. I hope it does well.

Bella: "Turtle sad"
Dad: "Why?"
Bella: "Me not know...snail"

She stared at this for minutes, that's a lifetime for a two and a half year old!
