I'm both hoping to scare the bejeezus out of some people, but not scare them enough to vote me way, way down because of it.

Do people not like spiders that much? I have to admit, I'm very very curious as to why this one didn't even break a 6. Boggles my mind really.

Hey maybe I could teach you how to take good macro spider shots in return for your knowledge of not overprocessing. LOL
Focus should have been on the head not the thorax. Would have looked much better. Could have cleaned up and removed the debris in the image also.

Thank you for the comments everyone.

Pappy: Such is the risk we take in putting up photos that can lead to such things. For every spider that gets us a lower vote from a phobia sufferer, there is the uber-cute child that gets an emotional boost vote from some parent or other. Such is the expectation when sharing our work.

I think I voted lower because I really have a phobia of spiders. A little more DOF/focus on the front legs might have helped my score. Great colour/composition.

You deserved a much higher score. You might be right about spider aversion.

i gave this a 10, i can't believe it didn't even beat MY image! so underrated, i think people were just scared by the spider b/c this is a great example of DoF usage, and the color scheme is great too

I'm stunned that you didn't ribbon with this. This was my clear favourite.

Excellent spider shot. I'm adding it to my favorites so that I can show my grandson who is an aspiring photographer of spiders and bugs.

OMG you are not kidding ::shudder:: This is where I would marginally prefer focus on the web instead of the spider ;-)
