Wild artichoke(cynara cardunculus) growing near a freeway exit in rural Solano County. More about the choke than the landscape, but the Northern California fires killed the skies this week, and without a dramatic sky most landscapes fell flat.

I had some other more close up pics of these plants that I liked a bit better compositionally, but used this one for the challenge because it showed the landscape in the background. Still expecting a 5.2 with a fair number of "that's not a landscape -DNMC" type comments. Oh well. I'm tired of trying to appeal to the masses (usually unsuccessfully), so I've gone back to just appealing to myself and rolling the dice ...

A great image - I am quite surprised this did not finish higher - very good work with a lovely soft quality to the shot

from me in Posthumous Ribbons

Love the colours and patterns in this, the Artichoke is very striking. The trail of colours into the photo is great as well.

splendid composition and choice of subject - the colors are so dynamic and the shallow DOF really gives this a three dimensional feel
