Critique Club Review:

Color Saturation and Hue: N/A Brightness and Contrast: Well done. Details are visible in the shadows, and although a couple of areas are on the edge, nothing is burned out and featureless. Focus is good, however depth of field appears just a tiny bit shallow. I see smoe softeness at the edge of the hair, and the clothing on their backs. Otherwise a very nice job of isolating the foreground and background to draw attention to the subject.

The border may have been a bit bold for some of the voters, but it is not so bold as to distract from the image.

Overall a timeless image, and a one I am sure their family will treasure in the future.

Congratulations on a well deserved top 5 finish.

Wow, thanks for all the nice comments. I was not expecting the 5th place to be honest and I did not actually shot this for the challenge. I was trying my new 70-200 2.8L IS and just got this shot by chance. If I was shotting it for the challenge probably I would have gone with an f/2.8 to get even more shallow dof.

Some self critique:

- I have to agree that this is not a portrait shot per se, but looks like most of the people are ok with that ;-)

- I really wanted to get a color version for the challenge but just couldn't get the colors right with the jpeg version. So I ended up going with bw... Color version has a bit more 3d effect. Lesson's learned: Will go back to shooting raw or at least try to use the right white balance; never use the autobalance when shooting jpeg at all... Well, I'm glad again most of the people liked the bw version.

Thanks again everybody for the comments and votes. And the biggest thanks go to my beautiful twin daughters of course...

Congrats on the HM. A fabulous moment captured, the exploration of youth.

Hard to fit this into a "portrait" per say, as it's a candid moment really.
Certainly one to cherish though and a moment that will last a lifetime.
Ok, it's growing on me. Not a "classic" portrait, but a well done candid portrait. Mia? This yours?

Great capture tops the cute scale. Perfect B&W mix. The DOF just leads you right to them its awesome.I see the tops of their heads a level but I think the eyes set to level would have been perfect and would have matched the plane of the grass in front of them too. Good Luck you have my vote.

I love the interaction between the two as they are both reaching for the same object. great tension in the shot as you don't know what the reaction will be from the one who got it and the one who didn't. :)

Very nice. Good DOF and use of B&W. The pose is too mirror image-like at first glance. I think different crop or angle of the shot wou;ld avoid that.

Darling shot but to me that is more a candid than a true portrait. So cute though. :~)
