85mm Prime, Day 5.
The ASPCA had their animal truck parked in my neighborhood. This little female (a pitbull / bull mastiff mix, according to the volunteer) was understandably getting lots of attention. Her orange vest says "Adopt Me" on the back.

I googled pitbull/mastiff mix and according to several sources it's considered a potentially dangerous mix (if the pup inherits the bad traits from the breeds rather than the good traits). This little pup seemed so sweet, I hate to think of her growing up and attacking someone.

[Note: As Jutilda points out in her comment below, nurture counts more than nature. My comment was based on threads in several dog forums where people asked if this would be a good breed combination and were unilaterally accused of trolling! I meant no offense to dog lovers.]

Processing: No pp except for a light sharpening after resizing. Added a thin border.

What a face. I'd love a dog but hate the thought of walking it 3 times a day. Otherwise, I'm in.

Excellent photo! I love the DOF and also the sharp and clear features of the face. Those eyes sell it! Definitely a face that needs a new home. Hopefully it has inherited some of the gentler traits of those breeds :)

Good job on the DOF to showoff the pooch. The brightly colored leashes are a bit distracting, but I know there's nothing you could have done about them. I don't think B&W to get rid of the bold colors would have worked here either.

How could you not want to adopt him with a face like that. Man, you couldn't possibly nail that focus and DoF any more perfectly!

He is so freaking cute I want to jump in the photo and hug him! Great job capturing a feeling in a photo. Forlorn is the word that jumps to mind.

What a beautiful pup portrait - great job, Larry.

I agree that with enough love and good training, every dog will be a good dog. Funny with the leashes for the little dog - heh.

Pit bulls were originally companion animals. They are very loyal. Pedey from the Little Rascals show was a pitbull. I would take this little sweetie in a hearbeat!

Great DoF and spot on focus! I like the composition, too!

Heh that dog needs some more leashes. LOL

Fabulous DOF. Great focus. I hope she found a home. Usually it is the owners that create the troubles with a "dangerous" breed, not the dog. The American Kennel Club's description of the mastiff's personality is: A combination of grandeur and good nature, courage and docility. Dignity, rather than gaiety, is the Mastiff's correct demeanor. American Pit Buils get a bad name but if properly trained, can be loyal and wonderful companions.
