This started as an idea to reproduce a combination of 2 Beatles Album Covers (Hard Days Night & Meet the Beatles). As I had to have everything except the models face black in order to not show any double exposure I found using the studio lights proved to be too strong so I tried just painting him quickly with a torch. After a few shots of this I felt it needed something more and had some coloured gels laying around and wondered what using those might look like.

Unfortunately because I was now painting with light and not using flash the model does not show up as crisp so was thinking about scrapping the idea but once I saw this image on my production PC it struck me how much it might look like a an Andy Warhol repro or a CMYK separation, hence the name.

To get my model to appear in the correct place on each 'flash' of the torch I lined up 2 chairs next to each other and framed him sitting on each chair & standing in front of each chair. With the room completely black except for the light from my laptop behind me I opened up the shutter in bulb. Had an assistant standing on a stool just left & front of the model and he would 'flash' the model after he indicated he was ready in each pre-set position.

When all 4 shots were exposed I closed the shutter....voile!

A little basic processing in LR & CS3 but otherwise not too different from the original.

I don't care for the green or yellow or blue or red casts on the faces - they are just not flattering, or complementary, colours... Also, you can do this in basic editing?

Three of the four images are blurred. And I would like to see the images aligned better.
