Taken at the Michigan City Zoo for the April Creative Choice side challenge.

Notes from the post there, title is "Homage to Sandy":

fter getting a PM from SandyP about her animal shots, I decided to get an annual pass to the local zoo so we can visit whenever we like. We're out at the lake several times a week and the zoo is just across the street.

After shooting almost 300 pictures and only having a few keepers, I know how hard it is to get a decent animal picture.

Such a beautiful photo, Ken. Though you scored well, I feel it really would have deserved quite a bit more.

ETA - I just saw the comment: oversharpened and washed out. Hahahahahaha! That's funny. :o)

Excellent detail, particularly on the gray feathers. Lovely light for this as well.

Good capture. I like the lighting, composition and colors. Nothing in the background to detract from your subject either. Well done.

While the preeening is an interesting pose, it is a little awkward from a composition perpective. The necks leads away and then back to the body, which lead the viewer in a cicle rather than a clear direction.

Almost perfect image. What a pity we can't see the birds face just a little more clearly. Nice lighting and editing.

beuatiful muted gray colours, leading you eye up to the crescendo of spiky bits, well done indeed for an excellent shot

A lot of nature photography on this site seems to fall down when the subject is simply snapped as is and is left with too much work to do to hold the viewer's attention. Not here. So much going on but such a simple composition. 10.
