 Found this Heron in Schenectady's central park one evening last week. Thank heaven for daylight savings times and late evening sunsets!

Superb image with beautiful tones throughout plus a lovely contre-jour effect to boot.

I can't get within 30-40 yards of the ones around here.

Neil, this is a beautiful photo that did quite well in a very, very tough competition. The water looks absolutely golden! I think the only issue may be the DOF - the OOF area in the back area of the water draws my eye away from the subject a bit in this case. By the way, I'm assuming you didn't mean to add "military" as one of your galleries in this.

Beautiful silhouette, texture, & overall composition. When I read the title I thought, "but that's not a loon". The water certainly is golden though.
