Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM Macro
Location: Albuquerque, NM

Galleries: Macro, Floral
Date Uploaded: Mar 31, 2008

This image continues my '08 Free Study theme of low scoring botanicals. The subject is a dead, dried up little flower of some sort. I reverse mounted the 50mm on the 100mm macro. Bounced the flash at full power off of a piece of white foamcore about 1 foot away and camera right.

Shot in RAW: adjusted white balance, exposure, recovery

PS:
No crop!
Acidify action, flattened the results, put that on a new layer above the original, radial gradient mask to tone down the edges.
Dodge, burn, a small clone here and there

I like how most of the subject is out of focus, allowing the viewer's imagination to complete the picture.

the vignette works well here, highlightong and complimenting the quirkiness of the image.

Nice image. The background is a bit of a distraction & th image seems out of focus. Prehaps getting the entire flower would have been better in this situation.

Interesting, but not sure what to make of this one.

I like the idea here. I enjoy abstract and minimilist images but with an image like this I am really looking to see the point of focus pin sharp and unfortunately this doesn't deliver that. I do like the colours, are the edges added in your post processing or did it look like this when you took it? If I were to suggest any other improvement it would be to try and have the purple in the rule of thirds rather than almost in the centre of the frame.

This is just my humble opinion.
