This is the York Minster, in York (of all places). Many thanks to SaraR for both taking me there and loaning me her tripod. This is a three-exposure HDR tone-mapped image. It was actually quite dark in this room. In Photoshop: levels, curves with soft light blending mode reduced to about 67%, selected the area just under the high arch and desaturated magenta to get rid of some fringing there. Very slight rotation and some cropping, then sharpening, resize, a touch more sharpening, then save for web at about 60% because it was nearly 300K.

Then after some very good advice, I started again with the full version that I'd saved up to the point of sharpening, added a bit of perspective correction, recropped, added a desaturated layer reduced to about 13%, resized and saved again. I don't usually save the full versions - kinda glad I did this time.

After the challenge, I'll add some more shots from this amazing structure. It really is beautiful.

Very inspiring. I love the photo, but I can imagine that this is one of those places that just isn't quite able to be captured in a photo.

I think this is beautiful, but the only thing I would have done is crop out th very bottom. I really like the vertical lines and I feel like the squares on the floor just disturbs the pattern. Other than that, it's great!

This scored over 6!! i'm not commenting, just kidding. I absolutely love the HDR on this image, it almost does not look like HDR. There is really not a whole lot to comment on this image. One thing is that it seems like you were not in the center of the aisle. The darker black thing almost in the center of the frame seems a little tilted to the left and the main arch at the top of the frame is not centered (the tip of the arch is actually quite a bit off center). Those are my only comments, great image. Hope this helped

Deb: I don't have a clue how to improve this picture. It seems perfect to me.

Deb, I'm really glad this one ended up breaking 6, although I still think it should have scored much higher!

Hi Deb, here's a critique for you...
Interesting to look at the image below you in the scores - different place, but almost the same image! :) This is an amazing grand cathedral, and a good HDR shot. For me, the fact that it's not quite straight is rather unsettling. Being HDR, there is a lot of amazing detail here, but the strength of a good HDR is that the overall composition is still strong in the midst of the detail, and I feel that your image lacks a good focus point - a resting place for the viewer. Local contrast is maybe a little high, but exposure and colour are good.

Wow - excellent detail. So gothic and intricate. You captured it really well.

I have no idea what you're talking about with your PP :) But the effect is truly beautiful and breath taking.

Just so funny to see the two cathedrals as neighbors in the results of this challenge. Wow what an incredibly gorgeous photo. Love the stick straight patterns that have been created in the background. Gorgeous yellow glow. I can only imagine how beautiful this must be to see in person.
