 I this boat on my way out to Land's End in Homer, AK. It was in a junkyard of old boats and a bus. I thought this would be the perfect picture of a harsh environment.
I used my 70mm-300mm at 70mm to capture the shot. It was getting dark and was very cold so I had to use a higher ISO because my hands were so shaky. I know this produced some grain in the clouds but it was the best I could do. There is an ice rink behind the boat and it seemed like everywhere I turned to take the picture, the rink would be in the back ground. This is not the angle I originally wanted but it is growing on me.

Wow, what a stunning photograph that wonderfully epitomises the challenge. Love the sense of aged dereliction in terms of the hull of the ship and the feeling of entrapment by the ice (which looks incredibly powerful). perhaps just a fraction overdone on the red hue and sat (and then it is only the leading buoy that looks a bit odd as it works well on the red paintwork elsewhere) but still a wonderful 9.

nice saturation of red in this one, might have cropped out the cliff though since some of that red showed there as well, still giving this a high vote
